Counselling sessions will take place using Skype, which you can use for free. This requires you having access to a private room and a good internet connection. I also offer Face-to-Face sessions for local clients.
I offer a free 30 minute non-therapeutic consultation (Skype/telephone/face-to-face) to help you decide if this is for you.
Usually counselling involves meeting once a week for a 50 minute session.
The number of sessions depends on your individual needs:
• 4-6 sessions may be enough to deal with a specific problem.
• A longer, open ended period may be required for more general issues.
We can discuss this in more detail and make a plan in our initial session.
Counselling (sometimes referred to as Psychotherapy) provides an opportunity to talk confidentially to someone who is trained to listen and help you gain a greater understanding of yourself and the challenges you might be facing. This in turn can lead to changes which improve your situation for the better. Evidence shows that client motivation and the quality of the relationship between the client and the counsellor are important factors in this.
There are many different approaches in counselling which influence the kind of therapy you may receive. As an Integrative Humanistic counsellor, I am focused on working in the present with what you are aware of, rather than with your subconscious. We might talk about the past but it is generally not the main focus of the therapy. I may give you general information relating to your circumstances, but will not advise or try to tell you what you should do. My aim is to help you find your own path to a better present and future.
Throughout our work together, I encourage feedback from you about what helps and what doesn’t. This also helps me make sure the work fits your needs. In longer term work, if you, or I, feel that it is time to end, we can talk about it.
